The gentleman who penned the stunning Maserati A6GCS/53 Berlinetta for Pinin Farina in 1953 recalled his first days at the famous coachbuilder and how he had the chance to create the beautiful sport car 61 year later, at the Concorso d’Eleganza di Villa d’Este.
The elegant gentleman is well known to the aristocratic circle that gathers on the shores of Lake Como in May. His name is Aldo Brovarone, and he is 88.

 

He recalled that the Maserati was his very first car designed at Pinin Farina. He had just returned to Italy from Argentina,

where he had moved to join Piero Dusio when the wealthy entrepreneur was about to launch the Cisitalia project there.

    At Villa d’Este as the Maserati was parading in front of the Jury he could not resist the short live-interview I arranged with Simon Kinston. Yes, he said, I am the designer of that car! To the delight of the clapping public.
    He said that it was the first car he designed at Pinin Farina (two words at that time) using unusual forms like concave grill, instead of convex, deep “buried” headlamps, the difficult shape of the windscreen and more… The car and the designer together again after more than 60 years is rare.

    His career at Pininfarina has been a long one and very successful, but he was appointed chief stylist at Pininfarina only in 1974. He retired in 1988, when he was 65.
    Brovarone has design many beautiful cars, many of them have won awards at Concourse d’Elegance around the world. One of his most remarkable cars is probably the Dino 246 GT. though the most relevant for production volume and sales success was the Peugeot 504.
